2019年度 カナダ研修の生徒体験記

「カナダ研修」

学年:中学部3年生

期間:2019年7月19日~8月6日

We took part in Toyo Eiwa's Canada Study Trip from July 19th to August 6th.

We left Haneda Airport on July 19th and arrived at the dormitory of Mount Allison University in Moncton at midnight.

From the next day, we started our one-week school life experience there. In the morning, we took English lessons. There were about 10 students in each class. The teachers were very kind to us and we had a really good time. In the afternoon, we went out to many kinds of places. For example, we went shopping downtown and bought lots of souvenirs such as maple syrup, maple cookies and clothes. One day at lunch time, we had a chance to talk to Canadian children who were joining summer camps at the university and having lunch at the cafeteria. They were very cute and we were very glad to understand one another.

We went sightseeing a lot. For example, we went to Joggins Fossil Cliffs. It is a World Heritage Site. We also went to Waterfowl Park. We could see some waterfowls, and we enjoyed the view of the water surface reflecting the beautiful sky.

On the final night in Moncton, we had a special supper followed by a karaoke and a dance party. We had a really good time there.

The next day, on July 27th, we left the residence at Mount Allison University and took a bus for Prince Edward Island. The bus journey was very long so we took a break and spent some time at the beach by an observatory before crossing the confederation bridge. We could see Prince Edward Island in the distance and it was a very good view. After that, we crossed a 13km bridge and finally reached Prince Edward Island and we met our host family at a local elementary school, and went to their homes. In Prince Edward Island, each student stayed with their homestay family. My host family was very kind. Whenever I got nervous, they talked to me gently. So I was able to relax.

We studied English at the University of Prince Edward Island. On weekdays, we took English learning classes in the morning and had many kinds of activities with our classmates in the afternoon. We explored Charlottetown, went to see a musical of "Anne of Green Gables," had a university tour and chatted with the language school students there.

Of all the activities, one of the highlights is when we had an "Anne of the Green Gables" tour. We went to Cavendish Post Office, where Lucy Montgomery worked. We also visited Montgomery's tomb and later visited Green Gables, where she lived. At Green Gables, we enjoyed the peaceful nature and walking along the Lover's Lane. Green Gables is a very nice house. Its green roof is beautiful. After the tour, we went back to the language school and showed our skits of "Anne of Green Gables," which we had practiced during classes. It was a lot of fun.

In Prince Edward Island, we spent our weekends freely. Some went to the amusement park, others went camping, and I went swimming in the sea. I also did Japanese "Omotenashi" to my homestay family. I cooked some Japanese food such as miso soup, chirashizushi, rice balls and rice cakes. They said that the food that I cooked for them was delicious and tasty so I was really happy.

Every day, there were many things to enjoy in Prince Edward Island and I had fun most of the time. While we were there, we tried to speak in English, and we were able to talk with people from various countries in English. I was very happy that I was able to communicate with them. Prince Edward Island was really rich in nature and has beautiful scenery. The people were very kind and cheerful. I want to go back someday. Also, thanks to the kindness of my host family, I had a great time. It was a really amazing study trip and I will never forget this experience.
